Tap-Taps and RIP Tim Treadwell 06/27/2011
Tap-Taps seem fitting for closing this Blog on Haiti. Tap-Taps rule the streets of Haiti like Taxies in New York...except Tap-Taps are insanely awesome. There really more like buses. I'll explain. Take a 1989 Nissan pickup truck combine that with Sesame Street and Mad Max fill it ful of Haitians and you get a Haitian Tap-Tap. Here's a picture of one. The Muriel on the back is famed Wyclef Jean American Musician turned presidential candidate this past election (Think celebrity politicians were an American thing? Think again.) Every Tap-Tap is personalized by art, most have some type of scripture written on them, In the pic the bottom bumper reads Psaumes 121v1 which is "I lift my eyes to the mountain, Where does my help come from?" God's been doing good things here in Haiti. The building projects, the outreaches all the crazy things I've been a part of have been more of a blessing to me than anyone else. I'm glad for the opportunity to serve the living God but more so glad to experience the healing that comes through altruism. I guess I'm just eager to give back to the one who has done so much in my life and given so much for me.... ...The scripture in Galatians where Paul writes "Let us not grow weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" with this outlook combined with "Whoever starts to plow and looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God." Its Christians goal to serve this God and not give up, I look forward to serving God in the states away from Haiti. Add Comment Olifson Oligarchy 06/23/2011
Went to the famose Hotel Olifson enjoyed the company of friends. Just dropped off Bel Air Pres and Krystal Smith (will miss her) at the airport, leaving in ten min to pick up a group from Ohio. Almost finished with my stay here (two more weeks) will be glad to get back into the states to look for work and enjoy the company of friends. Haitis in my futur, not sure when or where but I know i'll be down here again. Lord willing sooner than later. If time permits I'll be back down here to shoot video on child enslavement to close relatives (Think Brontes Heathcliff). I'm grateful to H.O.M. for allowing me to stay on their premiss for my duration here. The time has given me connections that I would otherwise never have established. Best part of my trip has been serving the lord and working for his kingdom come... Amen? Built truck bed walls out of used haitian wood, went to paitian ville and invested about 70 buck in canned goods for my eminent survival. After today I will never read another book. Tiered of not making any money. Film and devotions 06/07/2011
Experimented with a homemade dolly rig. Props to Nathan Lee for creating such a fine piece of craftsmanship. Devotions went well with the team, talked about human value and how much God invested in us with his son Jesus. Looking forward to Thursday, going to a distillery in Haiti. Great Uncles 06/05/2011
Evidently my great uncle influenced the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Read about it here. Blogging? 06/03/2011
While everyone went out to the work site today I stayed back and finished some much needed maintenance at the base aka raided the pantry. Exudes 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Doctor on short term informed me my feet were not, in fact, being eaten alive by bacteria but instead I was having an allergic reaction to my sandals (Blast you histamines!!!). He prescribed me 2% Hydrocortisone but after no luck digging through the pharmacy with F. Shroyer I settled for "Maximum Strength" 1% Hydrocortisone. Currently my contact lenses are mucked up so I'm wearing glasses. In my future... Planning a trip to the Rhum factory, hiking a hill, picking up the famous Nathan Lee from the airport, leading devotionals and worship on Tuesday and stateside the 4th of July. |
